Sticktron, the developer who recently announced the imminent release of yet another iOS 10.3.x jailbreak, has now provided additional insight into the current status of the tool. He has basically confirmed that only one hurdle remains which is preventing release, and that G0blin is “basically a yalu103 jailbreak.”
Let’s take a step back before we begin. The jailbreak scene is becoming increasingly blurred thanks to the sheer number of tools which are being announced and released for iOS 10 and iOS 11 on the back of exploits released by Siguza and Google’s Ian Beer.
This particular jailbreak has been put together on the back of the kernel exploit discovered and released by Siguza, and, as previously mentioned in our initial coverage, joins two other jailbreaks offering liberation for 64-bit devices running iOS 10.3.x. Following on from that announcement, the developer has provided a timely update regarding G0blin’s status.
The first update confirms that the jailbreak has been made possible thanks to the aforementioned V0rtex exploit found and released by the extremely talented Siguza. It also suggests that there is only one issue remaining which is preventing the release of G0blin as an IPA, which is “missing entitlements for root apps.”
The second update, which followed immediately after the first, continued the good news by confirming that the developer actually has a plan in place to overcome the entitlement issue in order to get a release out as an IPA for public a lot quicker. This will also come with a fully functioning Cydia and Substrate installations meaning that G0blin will be a complete jailbreak.
g0blin status update As you may know g0blin is basically a “yalu103” jailbreak: same devices as yalu102 but for iOS 10.3(.x) made possible by Siguza’s new v0rtex exploit. There is only one remaining issue: a missing entitlement for root apps. (1/x)
I gave Cydia the entitlement manually so it works 100%. Now I have to find/implement a solution that applies automatically to all such apps. I have a backup plan that I will implement temporarily just to release sooner, while working on the real solution.
Sticktron has achieved this by giving Cydia its entitlements manually to ensure that it works. When released as an IPA to public, G0blin will be fully compatible with all 64-bit devices running iOS 10.3.3, except for iPhone 7 and iPhone 7 Plus which aren’t compatible with Luca Todesco’s KPP bypass techniques, because G0blin makes use of that technique.
As of its current iteration, those who are interested in G0blin will need to have a minimal amount of technical proficiency as they will need to download the project from GitHub, compile it to an IPA file and then sideload it onto the target device using either Xcode or Cydia Impactor. Alternatively, you could just wait a bit more for Sticktron to release it in public IPA form.
As always, as soon as we have more info on it, we will let you know.
