The Apple Watch is already a popular product, despite the fact that it hasn’t really changed all that much in recent years. Now, a new report suggests that there could be some big upgrades on the way in the future.
According to Bloomberg‘s Mark Gurman, Apple plans to leverage its Visual Intelligence feature by adding a camera to the Apple Watch.
To make that more useful, it’s thought that the Apple Watch and Apple Watch Ultra will see cameras added in the future. Visual Intelligence is also thought to be coming to Apple’s AirPods lineup.
Apple’s ultimate plan for Visual Intelligence goes far beyond the iPhone. The company wants to put the feature at the core of future devices, including the camera-equipped AirPods that I’ve been writing about for several months. Along the way, Apple also wants to shift Visual Intelligence toward its own AI models, rather than those from OpenAI and Google.
Moving onto the premium Apple Watch Ultra, Gurman believes that the upcoming third-gen model will feature two new cellular features that could prove to be big upgrades for people who like to leave their iPhones at home.
According to Gurman’s weekly Power On newsletter, the Apple Watch Ultra will support 5G, the first time that the company has brought the technology to a wearable.
Further, it’s said that satellite texting will also be included so that owners can send and receive messages even when they are out of range of traditional cell towers.
