Jailbreaking iOS devices has many different benefits, but possibly the one that causes most to go through the process is the added ability to customize just about everything. In our experience we’ve found that people will customize just about every aspect of iOS, often in ways that we would never have imagined being useful. Useful or not, it seems people like to tweak things, especially when it comes to visual elements.
One element of iOS that arguably lends itself to customization is the iOS implementation of notification badges. The little red blobs that host numbers that signify the number of incoming alerts to the top-right of an app’s icon, notification badges are the kind of thing that sit on our iPhones and iPads and are almost taken for granted. One jailbreak tweak in particular aims to give notification badges a little love, offering users some fancy customization options in the process.
Named anyBadge Pro and costing a dollar on the Cydia jailbreak store, this tweak won’t break the bank but equally, a dollar is a dollar – there’s no reason to spend it if you don’t need to. If you want to customize notification badges though, we suspect it’ll be money well spent.
The job of anyBadge Pro is actually pretty simple. Once installed, users can change the behavior of those notification badges. While changing what is displayed when a notification is received is indeed possible, it’s how the badges behave that make things interesting. Replacing notification numbers with text or even emoji is indeed possible using anyBadge Pro, but the tweak’s settings also allows the customization of when the badges display, and what their resting state is. Want a badge to display certain text even when there are no unread notifications? No problem!
There are plenty of options to play with, and thankfully no respring is needed in order to make those changes to take hold, so if like us you’re tired of looking at that Apple logo every time you change a setting, then you’ll be pleased that anyBadge Pro isn’t going to drive you mad.
AnyBadge Pro is available to download from the BigBoss repository now.
