With the introduction of the Hulu Plus for Windows Phone app on Monday allowing it to finally be scrubbed from the list of “apps Windows Phone needs but doesn’t yet have,” a couple more significant apps for the platform have today seen updates. The Foursquare app has finally been updated for Windows Phone 8, while Microsoft has made some novel alterations to its home-cooked YouTube app. Details and the download link, as ever, can be found after the break.
Foursquare adds an element of fun and even competition to the practice of checking-in, and although Windows Phone 8 has been out for a good six months now, the social app has remained stuck on Windows Phone 7.x. Thankfully, the wait is now over, so if you’re on one of the newer WP smartphones, you can now check in to your favorite restaurants, parks, or coffee shops with relative ease.
Meanwhile, Microsoft’s very own YouTube now looks much more substantial. Hitherto, it’s been little more than a link to the Web app, but the Redmond company has now given YouTubers a very clean and functional interface. Upon downloading and installing, users will be instantly taken with how easily the app’s various features can be accessed, and since you can easily pin different elements such as channels and playlists right to the Start Screen of your Windows Phone 8 device, you don’t have to keep opening and shutting the app just to check the bits you want to check.
Windows Phone users have had a bit of a tough time enjoying YouTube so far, and although third-party alternatives (as well as the Web version) have done the trick, this Microsoft YouTube app update places it well and truly atop the pile. It truly utilizes the unique nature of the Windows Phone interface, and if you’re running the platform, you should certainly check it out via the download link provided below.
Grab the new Foursquare and YouTube apps from the links given below, take them for a spin, and be sure to leave your thoughts and comments via the usual mediums.
