Force Touch Modules For iPhone 6s Series Enter Mass Production, Report Claims

Rumors have it that the Apple’s next generation smartphone dubbed as the ‘iPhone 6s’ and the ‘iPhone 6s Plus’ are expected to be integrated with Force Touch technology, which was first introduced in the Apple Watch, followed by the 12-inch MacBook and select MacBook Pro models. Force Touch could be one of the hallmark features in the next flagship smartphone by Apple which everyone is looking forward to.

Now according to a new report by Taiwan’s DigiTimes publication, Apple suppliers have now begun mass production of the Force Touch panels for the next generation iPhones. Starting in June, the Force Touch modules for the new iPhones started shipping, albeit in small quantities, but production was ramped up in July.

TPK, which is one of the suppliers of the Force Touch modules, started mass producing the parts in July. It did not specify whether the components it was knee-deep in manufacturing were meant for Apple, but there’s no doubt that Cupertino is infact the customer for these parts as it was the first to introduce the Force Touch technology in its devices. TPK also added that its revenues are expected to increase by 50-percent in the third quarter, mainly due to the production of the Force Touch components.

The same sources also told DigiTimes that the “shipments of the new Apple smartphones expected to reach 36-40 million in the third quarter and 50 million in the fourth quarter,” and that Apple could ship around 230 million iPhones this year. Yup, you heard that right. These are staggering figures given how the blogosphere was jubilant over earlier speculations that some 90 million iPhone 6s / 6s Plus units could be shipped once launched this fall.

Based on previous rumors, the upcoming iPhone 6s and the iPhone 6s Plus are expected to come with the same 4.7 inch and 5.5 inch screen sizes, powered by an A9 processor with faster CPU, 2GB of RAM, an upgraded Qualcomm LTE chip, Force Touch technology, an even more responsive Touch ID, and an improved 12 megapixel rear-facing camera.

As for the device’s exterior design, it should remain the same as the iPhone 6 and iPhone 6 Plus, but may be built using a stronger 7000 Series aluminum casing. Apple is expected to unveil it’s latest smartphones in September this year.
