If you’re waiting for Apple to announce its first foldable device, you could be waiting a little longer. That’s following the news that Apple has canceled one foldable MacBook and delayed the launch of another.
That’s according to supply chain analyst Ming-Chi Kuo who took to X and Medium to share details about what he believes is in the cards for Apple’s foldable lineup.
The company has yet to launch any foldable device, but conventional wisdom has long suggested that a foldable MacBook or iPad would arrive before any kind of foldable iPad.
Now, Kuo reports that Apple has chosen to cancel the 20.25-inch device that had been rumored and has instead settled on one that measures 18.8 inches. However, that device isn’t expected to be announced at the end of 2026 as was initially believed. Instead, Kuo now thinks that the end of 2027 or even 2028 is most likely due to “technical challenges”.
Interestingly, Kuo believes that some may have lost visibility of the device within the supply chain, The reason, he believes, could simply be because some people refer to the product as a foldable iPad while others call it a foldable MacBook.
Whatever the unannounced device winds up being called, it’s expected to offer a large display that can be used almost like an iMac when unfolded. However. when slightly folded the bottom half of the display could then be used as a full-size touchscreen keyboard similar to that of a MacBook or similar laptop.
