Final Fantasy VIII Remastered Is Now Available On iPhone And Android

Decades after the game first arrived on console, Final Fantasy VIII is now available on both iPhone and Android for the first time. The game originally launched on the PlayStation in 1999 and it’s become a cult classic in the years since.

Now, gamers can enjoy it while they’re on the move, too. Square Enix had previously re-launched the title on Xbox One, PS4, and Switch as recently as 2019 but this is the first time it’s come to mobile.

The game itself boasts improved visuals over their 1999 game, while options to speed up combat are also welcome.

FINAL FANTASY VIII was first released on February 11, 1999. Beloved by fans, this title has garnered a great deal of popularity even compared to other installments in the FINAL FANTASY franchise, selling more than 9.6 million units worldwide. And now players can enjoy FINAL FANTASY VIII on their smartphone! With renewed character CG, the world of FINAL FANTASY VIII is now more beautiful than ever before.

There do appear to be problems, however. The game’s App Store page notes that there are a few bugs that you should probably be aware of before paying the $16.99 asking price.

* Entering or leaving vehicles such as cars and the Garden may occasionally get your character stuck between the vehicle and terrain features, or freeze the vehicle in place. This seems to happen more often when you leave your vehicle in close proximity to impassable terrain, or when you try to enter or leave your vehicle during certain scripted events. Currently, the only fix for this is to reload a previously saved game, so please make sure to save your progress often.

There are updates planned that should deal with some issues and add new features, too. Not least, cloud saves and controller support.
