When Apple announced the iPhone 11 and iPhone 11 Pro back in September 2019, one of the big displays on-stage was from FiLMiC. The video camera app makers showed off what could be done with the powerful new phones, with the ability to record from multiple cameras at the same time proving impressive. Now you can try it yourself.
FiLMiC hasn’t yet rolled the technology into FiLMiC Pro, but there’s a new – and free – app that you can try it out with. DoubleTake is available for download from the App Store now and it allows users to record from two different iPhone cameras simultaneously.
Because of the horsepower needed to make this work you’ll need an iPhone XS, iPhone XR, iPhone 11, or iPhone 11 Pro to be able to use it. While the app will indeed work with older iOS 13 phones, it will be limited to recording from a single camera.
When recording, users will be able to choose which cameras to use and how they want the video to be captured. There are split-screen options as well as picture-in-picture options, both giving a different look and feel to the results. DoubleTake also features enhanced focus and exposure controls, too.
The app is free and can be downloaded now. It’s clear this is a test to allow FiLMiC to get the technology into the hands of everyone, with the real deal being FiLMiC Pro. That’s expected to be ready later this year, too.
