With the iPhone 11 set to launch in just a matter of hours, renowned analyst Ming-Chi Kuo has shared a new report on what we can expect out of the new phone. Worryingly, he’s also shared what we shouldn’t expect, too.
Starting with the bad news, Kuo believes that the expected reverse wireless charging feature won’t make it into the final iPhone 11 design.
That feature was expected to allow an iPhone to charge another Qi-compatible device wirelessly, just like many existing Android flagship devices do. That would obviously be hugely beneficial to owners of AirPods, but Kuo says that Apple had issues making everything work within “Apple’s requirements”.
That would be a huge miss for Apple, especially considering recent reports that the Apple logo on the rear of the new iPhones has been moved towards the center in order to give users an easy-to-spot landing zone when charging AirPods. It also comes months after Apple was forced to publicly cancel AirPower, its wireless charging mat, for similar performance issues.
Apple was also lightly rumored to have a smaller Apple Pencil up its sleeve. That Apple Pencil would allow users to write on the iPhone’s screen, similar to the Galaxy Note lineup of Android phones. Alas, that’s apparently not going to happen. Although not surprising, it’s still disappointing.
But Kuo does have some good news, too. He says that the two iPhone Pro models will ship with a faster charger in the box. Apple has long used the same 5w charger for iPhones but the new report has the higher end iPhones now shipping with an 18w charger instead. That said, USB-C port may not make it onto the lineup just yet.
We’ll know how accurate all of this is in just a few short hours. And then we can get to the rumors for whatever comes next!
