Facebook Messenger users who are paranoid about people reading their message, rejoice. You’re getting a new security feature that will hide your chats behind Touch ID or Face ID.
Users can select to have the app automatically lock itself when it is closed, or select a timeout period to fine-tune the security to suit their needs.
While the feature is only available to those carrying iPhones right now, Facebook says that Android users can expect to see it arrive in their app “in the next few months”.
While the AppLock feature is obviously a big deal right now, there are other changes coming to help with Facebook Messenger security and privacy, too. There will be a new Privacy section added to the app’s settings where users will be able to change App Lock settings as well as control which users have been blocked within the app.
Additionally, anyone who sends you an unsolicited message with an image will no longer be able to photobomb you with anything. Facebook Messenger will automatically blur such images instead.
However, that feature is only in testing right now and Facebook hasn’t said when it will be available for use. It is, however, a feature that’s already available in Instagram and WhatsApp.
