Face ID-Enabled Smart Doorbell From Apple In The Works

Apple might be stepping into the smart home game with a new product: a smart doorbell with Face ID technology, according to Mark Gurman’s latest report.

The rumored smart doorbell would take Apple’s Face ID tech beyond phones and iPads.

It’s designed to scan faces and work with third-party deadbolts, unlocking your door automatically for approved residents. Think of it as Face ID for your home where you just walk up, get recognized, and step inside.

It’s expected to integrate seamlessly with Apple’s HomeKit, meaning it should pair with many existing smart locks already on the market. There’s also speculation that Apple could collaborate with a specific lock maker to launch a complete smart door system right from the start.

The smart doorbell will likely feature Apple’s upcoming Proxima wireless chip and secure enclave, prioritizing privacy and security. It’s also expected to work alongside a new smart home hub and security camera that Apple is reportedly developing.

While it sounds exciting, don’t expect to see this product anytime soon. Reports suggest that the smart doorbell isn’t likely to launch before late 2025.
