Want to exchange your replacement Galaxy Note 7 unit for any other phone from Verizon, AT&T, T-Mobile or Sprint? Here are the details on how you can do that.
It has been a torrid few weeks for Samsung and the bad news surrounding its Galaxy Note 7 smartphone shows no sign of abating after it was announced today that each of the big four cellular carriers in the United States will accept exchanges from anyone who has a replacement Galaxy Note 7 and feels they have lost confidence in the device.
The move comes after a report that another Galaxy Note 7 caught fire recently on a Southwest plane, with the handset in question reportedly one that was provided as a replacement for another that was part of the mass recall Samsung has just endured. The replacement device was supposed to be safe, denoted by a black square on the retail packaging in which it was sold. This is the first example of a replacement device catching fire and as such, the US Consumer Product Safety Commission and FAA has opened an investigation into the incident.
Once the report of a replacement device catching fire was made public, Sprint was initially the first carrier to offer customers an exchange on their devices even if they have already been replaced. With customers potentially losing faith in a smartphone that may still have issues following the now infamous recall, Sprint will allow owners of Galaxy Note 7 handsets to swap them out for another device of their choosing whether that be a Galaxy S7, an iPhone or any other smartphone on the market.
Hot on the heels of Sprint however, Verizon, AT&T and T-Mobile have now also confirmed that they too will swap Galaxy Note 7 phones out in a similar fashion, meaning most customers in the United States with one of the ill-fated devices can now be rid of it if they so wish. With Samsung’s flagship already having been responsible for evacuations of airplanes and being banned from future flights, would you want to keep your Galaxy Note 7?
This is, of course, horrendous news for Samsung and, if it turns out that its replacement Galaxy Note 7 smartphones are still suffering the same issues that plagued the initial batches, it could potentially see the end of the device. A recent report suggests a second recall may be on the cards, though it’s unlikely the device would be able to survive another one. Probably best to call it a day and get back to work on next year’s model.
