Similar to the hack which enabled multitasking on iPhone 3G and iPod touch 2G running iPhone OS 4 Beta, the following step by step instructions will help you enable Wallpapers support which like multitasking, was locked down by Apple for the mentioned devices. You will need to be jailbroken on iPhone OS 4.0 before you follow the steps below.
Step 1: Make sure you have OpenSSH installed on your iPhone:
- Open Cydia. Touch on “Search” tab and then search for “OpenSSH”.
- Install “OpenSSH” and reboot your iPhone.
Step 2: Connect your iPhone with your computer. Make sure iTunes is not running.
Step 3: Download and install Cyberduck for Mac. Enter the following details to login to your phone:
- Server: The IP address of your iPhone. Settings –> WiFi –> <Your Network Name>
- Username: root
- Password: alpine
- Protocol: SFTP (SSH File Transfer Protocol)
Step 4: Copy the /System/Library/CoreServices/SpringBoard.app/N82AP.plist file from the phone over to any local directory on your computer.
Step 5: Edit the N82AP.plist file in TextEdit or TextWrangler so that it looks like this:
Step 6: Now save this file in the same format and copy it back to the iPhone in the same directory. i.e. /System/Library/CoreServices/SpringBoard.app/
Step 7: Now simply restart your iPhone. Voila ! You can now set wallpapers on your iPhone 3G and iPod touch 2G by simply navigating to Settings > Wallpaper.
