If you’re reading this, then chances are that you’ve become one of the many millions of people from around the world who is either interacting and playing Pokémon Go, or who is eagerly waiting for it to launch in their territory so they can see what all of the fuss is about.
As you might expect from a game that heavily uses device location and augmented reality features, it isn’t exactly the kindest app that we’ve ever seen when it comes to battery life. Thankfully, the developers behind it have had the foresight to integrate a Battery Saver mode to ensure that gamers can continue playing for as long as possible.
The main point of the game is to travel around in the real world to find Pokémon that are dotted about all over the place. There’s also the opportunity to visit gyms that are located at real-world geographical locations, as well as Pokéstops that appear at random places. All of these features are continuously polling the device location in order to display them on the screen at the appropriate times.
Continue like that without any type of battery saving in place and it won’t be long until the phone dies completely. Follow through the simple steps below to save as much battery as possible.
How to enable Battery Saver mode in Pokémon Go on iPhone or Android:
Step 1: When on the main Pokémon Go home screen, press the Pokéball icon at the bottom of the screen.
Step 2: When the new overlay appears, tap on the Settings icon – represented by a familiar looking cog glyph – at the top right corner of the display.
Step 3: When presented with a new list of options, make sure you put a check in the bubble next to the Battery Saver option.
Step 4: Exit out of the Settings page and back to the main Pokémon Go home. You can now continue to use the app as normal.
Having the Battery Saver mode enabled doesn’t appear to limit any features or reduce any abilities when playing the game, but with it being enabled, when the device is held down with Pokémon Go app active, the screen goes dark in order to preserve as much battery life as possible.
