It was almost 24 hours ago when Morgan Stanley was found talking about how the Apple Car could be a “far more formidable competition than the established OEMs” to Tesla. But here’s a twist; Elon Musk offered to sell Tesla to Apple, and Tim Cook refused the meeting.
In a market that is easily dominated by Tesla, the Apple Car carries the burden of great expectations.
We have already heard reports about Apple poaching Tesla employees, with inside news of some breakthrough battery tech, but the news of Elon Musk offering up Tesla for the grabs back in 2017 is quite the news.
The SpaceX pioneer tweeted on Tuesday:
It’s no secret that the Model 3 debacle was looking to bring Tesla down to its knees, but the fact that the company was being offered at 1/10th of it current value to Apple, is a stunner, if not the fact that Tim Cook never even considered a meeting.
It could be that back then Apple might have been shaky with the project, but as mentioned earlier, a reported breakthrough in battery tech recently, might have put the project back on track.
