Tesla will be able to get at least some Cybertrucks out of the factory before the end of the year. That’s according to founder and CEO Elon Musk during a call to go through the company’s quarterly earnings.
“We’ll make a few deliveries of the Cybertruck in 2021,” Musk said during the call, “but volume production is set for next year.”
The good news is that Musk says the designs for the new truck are ready to go. “We’ll soon order the equipment necessary to make the Cybertruck,” he noted, although we still don’t know whether those designs are anything like the very angular prototype we all saw last year.
Musk also noted that the company will need to buy new manufacturing equipment to get the job done with an 8,000-ton press required to stamp out the parts for the Cybertruck. The press used for the Model Y tops out at 6,000 tons as noted by Roadshow.
The first Cybertrucks that will work their way out of the factory will be more costly tri-motor model, while the cheaper versions will be built next year.
All of that will go down at Tesla’s new Gigafactory, located in Austin, Texas.
