Elegant and professional looking WinterBoard and DreamBoard themes that dramatically change the look of iOS are hard to find. Much to the detriment of the reputation of the theming community, a lot of theme packages on Cydia look like they have been put together by someone using Microsoft Paint at the most basic level, but thankfully, not everyone has that amateur approach. As Steve Jobs famously once said: "Design is not just what it looks and feels like. Design is how it works" and you definitely get that feeling from the elegance of the just-updated Retina ready MIUI v5.
The inspiration for the theme itself is likely going to cause a little bit of controversy amongst hardcore iOS fans as it has been derived from the beautiful and elegant interface of the MIUI ROM that is so popular with the Android modification community. Purchasers of the theme can expect to get their hands on a full user-interface, with a plethora of native and third-party icons themed to suit the style of the package, with heritage coming from the v4 version of this theme but with added Retina goodness. A full icon PSD is also included for those who want to go at it themselves in Photoshop and make some manual tweaks.
The developers of the package have also included two dedicated BiteSMS themes, a Color Keyboard theme, MIUI SBSettings theme and an Android loader theme as well as some great little add-ons such as a custom created Zeppelin logo and BytaFont font file to really make the theme pop out. Although the icons look great on this theme and it’s obvious that attention to detail has been paid in most areas, you can’t help but feel that with a little additional work it could have been made better in key areas. Buttons with unsightly strokes around them and misplaced glyphs slightly detract from an overall good experience.
MIUI v5 is available to download from the ZodTTD and MacCiti repository for $2.99 and requires a Retina ready jailbroken device running iOS 6.0 or above.
