Pokemon Go has been updated to 1.23.1 for iOS and 0.53.1 for Android, with download of both new updated versions rolling out on their respective app stores right now and should should appear on compatible devices soon. Here’s what’s new and changed.
Given that this is relatively small incremental update, there isn’t a huge amount for Trainers to sink their teeth into even though this is the first update for Pokemon Go to happen in the year 2017. However, it’s still a very welcome update, and one that looks to enhance the Pokemon Go experience for all users across all supported platforms.
As outlined in the official release notes, Trainers will now receive a better experience when using the app on the Apple Watch. These changes now mean that Apple Watch owners will receive a visual notification when Eggs are dished out when a Trainer interacts with a PokéStop. Niantic has also improved the underlying logic which is used to track the distance covered by Trainers as part of an effort to “better account for GPS drift.”
As with all updates to the app, there are also a number of minor bug and text fixes which have been put in place to better enhance the overall Pokemon Go experience. The complete official changelog can be seen below:
Updated Apple Watch to display Eggs obtained from PokéStops
Changed distance tracking to better account for GPS drift
Minor text fixes
As mentioned, the latest updates should be in the process of propagating through the relevant app stores, and should hopefully show up as an available update sooner rather than later.
The update is yet another indication that Niantic is committed to providing as much support as possible to Trainers, and ensuring that the game is continually kept up to date and relevant. Given how many incremental upgrades that we’ve been seeing recently, it’s only a matter of time until Niantic releases a large update which really takes the game to the next level and entices some of those lost users back to the augmented world of Pokemon.
