If you feel the need to do so, you can now download the Pixel Launcher experience from Google’s latest Pixel 3 smartphone. The Launcher comes with some minimal but worthwhile changes and is accessible right now by downloading the APK pulled from the Pixel 3 handset.
It’s worth noting that Google hasn’t made any real radical changes as far as the Pixel Launcher experience is concerned with its Pixel 3 hardware. The changes are relatively minimal in nature but should be enough to keep some Android users happy who haven’t been particularly enthused about the small changes which have been made with Android P Developer Preview 5.
Most notably, with that aforementioned release, Google decided to inexplicably remove the small voice icon that lived in the Google Search bar and was used to invoke the Assistant experience. With the Pixel 3 Launcher experience, this button is now back but takes on the shiny new form of an actual Assistant-themed button that lives in the exact same place as the previous voice icon in the Google pill-shaped drawer.
The new Pixel 3 Launcher also shows that an adaptive icon experience is now forced on all icons and all apps that are installed on the device and accessible via the Launcher. This might not seem like much but it immediately gives that part of the UI a uniform and more symmetrical look and feels rather than having some adaptive icons and some that have been created to the developer’s imagination.
Other than those two things, other changes within the Pixel 3 Launcher are extremely minimal and include additional space being padded between elements in the application switcher as well as a relatively tiny arrow being added above the pill-shaped Google search field. Most people wouldn’t even notice these things unless they were actively comparing side-by-side differences to see changes and amends.
Still, if you are an Android enthusiast who loves to try out the newest toys and changes within the ecosystem, then you can grab the Pixel 3 Launcher APK now from here, and sideload it onto your compatible Android device.
If you do download the experience and give it a try, make sure to highlight any changes that you manage to find in this new launcher.
