Apple today released macOS Big Sur 11.2.2 to the public with the update landing a couple of weeks after macOS Big Sur 11.2.1 was also released.
The initial Big Sur release took place in November and Apple has been pushing smaller updates out ever since.
This latest update can be downloaded by heading into the System Preferences app and clicking Software Update.
This particular release doesn’t have a huge number of changes in it but it does have one important one that could prevent MacBooks from being damaged. Apple says this release is to prevent MacBook Pro (2019 or later) and MacBook Air (2020 or later) notebooks from being damaged when they are connected to some third-party USB-C docks that are ‘non-compliant.’
macOS Big Sur 11.2.2 prevents MacBook Pro (2019 or later) and MacBook Air (2020 or later) models from incurring damage when they are connected to certain third-party, non-compliant powered USB-C hubs and docks.
The release notes for this update don’t go into any further details about what that actually means, but we’d suggest downloading the update as soon as possible. Especially if you’re someone who uses a third-party dock or hub that could fall under the non-compliant banner.
