You can now download macOS 14 Sonoma final version, and install it on your Mac at home. Here’s how.
Apple releases big new versions of macOS every year and it’s been beta testing macOS Sonoma ever since it was announced on June 5. It’s been through months of testing and now is the time for you to install it as well. The update comes after iOS 17, iPadOS 17, watchOS 10, and tvOS 17 were already released earlier in September.
Today’s new macOS Sonoma release brings with it a number of new features, some bigger than others, but all adding to the foundations that macOS Ventura brought last year.
At the top of the list of new features, you’ll find support for desktop widgets, a feature that makes it possible to put widgets on the Mac’s desktop for the first time. That includes using iPhone widgets, too.
Other features include a new Game Mode which allows Apple silicon Macs to prioritize games when handing out CPU and GPU performance, while the same feature reduces latency for game controllers and AirPods over wireless connections.
The new features continue with support for turning websites into apps that can be added to the Dock, while macOS Sonoma also includes new screen savers and wallpapers, too.
All of this and more is now available as a free download on most modern Macs including the 2018 MacBook Pro or later, 2018 MacBook Air or later, 2018 Mac mini or later, 2019 iMac or later, 2017 iMac Pro or later, 2022 Mac Studio or later, and 2019 Mac Pro or later.
You can get it from the Mac App Store and or the System Preferences app as OTA update.
