You can now download and install macOS 10.13.1 High Sierra final version for your Mac with immediate effect. Apple has continued the development of the platform with the haste that it has become known for, meaning all compatible Macs can access the latest release right now.
In all honesty, this update is one that a lot of Mac owners will have been keeping their eyes out for given the patches that it actually contains.
It was recently reported that a vulnerability in macOS High Sierra allowed apps with malicious intent to access passwords stored in Apple’s Keychain in plain text. That would, of course, immediately give the owner of the app access to passwords which were supposed to be secured and encrypted by the system. The process of achieving this, which was reported to Apple on September 7th well before the macOS High Sierra launch, has never been officially disclosed by the discoverer, and while Apple fixed this in an Supplemental Update to 10.13.0, the same fix carries over to 10.13.1 as well.
In addition to fixing and patching that extremely serious security flaw in original release of macOS High Sierra, version 10.13.1 also patches the critical KRACK WPA2 WiFi vulnerability. Apple has also added additional improvements, fixes, and under-the-hood improvements which should hopefully mean that macOS High Sierra is a more pleasurable experience on all Mac machines. It also shows that Apple is continuing to dedicate itself to fixing issues and niggles, no matter how serious, as quickly as is humanly possible for the benefit of Mac owners around the world.
Last but not the least, macOS 10.13.1 also includes hundreds of new and redesigned emojis just like in iOS 11.1 and watchOS 4.1.
It’s likely that we will see additional releases coming sooner rather than later with more improvements and fixes put in place.
macOS 10.13.1 High Sierra is available with immediate effect as a free-of-charge download from the Mac App Store. Simply launch the Mac App Store, head into the Updates tab, and get the 10.13.1 update on your compatible Mac. It shouldn’t take too long for the system to whizz through the process and get you onto the latest version.
