You can download Kodi 17.4 RC1 (Release Candidate 1) APK for Android and DMG for Mac devices. Here are the details.
The hard-working development and engineering team behind the increasingly popular Kodi media center platform has officially released the first Release Candidate (RC1) build of Kodi 17.4 Krypton. That all-important RC1 release follows hot on the heels of the Kodi 17.4 Nightly builds, which were made available just few days ago, once again showing the impressive pace at which the Kodi team works.
The global usage of the Kodi media software has been on the up-and-up in recent months due to the impressive rate at which new versions keep coming, as well as the fact that the software now supports a huge amount of platforms as well as devices powered by those platforms. It really doesn’t seem to matter what hardware you own or what operating system it is running, there seems to be a version of Kodi which can be installed to it with a very small learning curve. The seeding of Release Candidate 1 means that the team is now one step closer to actually pushing out the final version of Kodi 17.4.
While it’s great news to see that Kodi 17.4 RC1 is now available to download, it’s slightly disheartening to learn that the team behind the release hasn’t pushed out any official release notes or changelog with the build. It’s also slightly limiting to know that RC1 is currently only available for two platforms – Android and Mac – albeit that it likely covers a high percentage of devices considering that a lot of people actually use Kodi as an installation on Android-powered boxes and sticks. With that said, this isn’t the final release, and it’s likely that release notes will follow with a final public version for all platforms.
At this stage, we can confidently surmise that the team Kodi team has pushed out 17.4 RC1 containing a number of bug fixes, security patches and under-the-hood improvements which are designed to streamline and improve the overall experience. With Kodi 18 Leia already in the works, it is highly unlikely that Kodi 17.4 contains any enhanced functionality or feature additions which would potentially step on the toes of that new major release.
As time progresses, we will see additional builds of Kodi 18 pushed out into the public domain, but for now, and for those that are interested, Kodi 17.4 RC1 can be easily downloaded for Android and Mac from here.
