iPhone and iPad owners have always flooded the App Store as soon as it becomes public knowledge that an app that shouldn’t have made it past the App Store review process, has somehow managed to land itself a spot on the store. Well another insurgent has slipped into the iOS realm, and considering the type of app that it is, we can be sure that consumer response won’t be much different this time around either. Hailed by the developers as being “the ultimate solution to capturing your screen”, Vidyo! by Innovative Developers Ltd is available right now on the App Store, but potentially only for a limited time.
Vidyo! may have a somewhat ridiculous name, but it offers a set of functions that most consumers would dearly want to grab onto. Screen recording is one functionality that Apple just doesn’t approve of in any app on its App Store since it contravenes its own developer terms and conditions. In Apple’s view, an application should only be able to function from within its own confines. There are of course background privileges and the likes, but they don’t, or shouldn’t extend to apps of this nature.
So what we have with Vidyo! is essentially an application that allows users to capture their entire screen, as well as all audio being played on the device. Vidyo! offers an additional function over its primary one, which allows existing videos to be imported directly from the device’s Camera Roll and then have an audio commentary recorded over it using voice annotation, as long as the necessary privileges are provided to the device’s microphone. Users are also able to take multiple video files – whether they be purposely recorded within Vidyo! or imported from the device – and splice them all into one single file directly with the app without the need for a computer. Screen capture, audio capture, in-app video and audio editing; what more could you want on a non-jailbroken iPhone or iPad?
The real power of Vidyo! comes from the fact that you can actually record the screen at any time no matter what application you’re in. There’s also the option of actively recording from any source on the device as well; whether that be the front or rear cameras, or audio from the device’s speakers or microphone input. That functionality alone is worth the $4.99 asking price before you even take into consideration the trimming and editing functionality. Grab it now before Apple realizes it slipped up, and pulls it from the App Store.
