Apple has just released iOS 7.1.1 download links for compatible iPhone, iPad and iPod touch devices. Therein, you’ll find minor bug fixes and performance enhancements, and below, you can check all of the details including a full change log.
The fruit company’s release of iOS 7.1 was a long time in coming, and having arrived back in March, offered some fairly significant enhancements including iTunes Radio improvements, CarPlay (formerly known as iOS in the Car), and a newly-revamped Calendar app.
As implied by the numbering of this particular bump, Apple isn’t pushing anything major with iOS 7.1.1, instead ensuring that the general stability of its mobile software is back up to scratch. Specifically improvement to Touch ID fingerprint recognition on iPhone 5s and fixes for Bluetooth keyboard with VoiceOver enabled.
Here’s the full official changelog:
This update contains improvements, bug fixes and security updates, including:
– Further improvements to Touch ID fingerprint recognition
– Fixes a bug that could impact keyboard responsiveness
– Fixes an issue when using Bluetooth keyboards with VoiceOver enabled
Given that iOS 7.1 was our typical, middle-of-the-road update that Apple usually pushes halfway through major release cycles, it’s very unlikely that the MacBook maker will bring forth any more noteworthy new features this side of iOS 8.
The upcoming mobile software, which is expected to be announced at the Worldwide Developers Conference (WWDC) in June, will purportedly offer iTunes Radio its very own dedicated app, as well as adding a special Tips app to help users get the very best out of their iPhone, iPad and iPod touch devices.
The marquee feature of iOS 8 will perhaps be the ‘Healthbook’ app, which is set to offer everything from heart-rate and blood sugar monitors to calorie counting and fitness tracking. Whether these features will accompany the so-called "iWatch" remains to be seen, but by the look of things, iOS 8 will be a landmark release.
In the meantime, we’re now up to iOS 7.1.1, and if you’re currently on iOS 7.1, then it is highly recommended that you go ahead and download this new release. If you’re still sitting on iOS 7.0.x for the purpose of preserving your jailbreak, then please do not update your device, because you will not be able to downgrade again and subsequently, will forgo any immediate opportunity to jailbreak.
You can download right now by using the OTA feature within the Software update section of your iOS device, although it is always recommended that you perform a ‘fresh’ update by connecting your device to your PC or Mac and going through iTunes.
