Just a few weeks after Apple made iOS 6.1 available to the public, the latest update for the mobile operating system, iOS 6.1.1, has just been pushed out for iPhone 4S only, and can be downloaded right now.
This surprisingly quick release comes on the heels of a developer seed last week, along with connectivity issues that were detected in iOS 6.1, affecting primarily business costumers who rely deeply on Microsoft Exchange. Given the way these issues strongly affected the business sector, where a large chunk of iPhone sales go, Apple has clearly fast-tracked the release of iOS 6.1.1 in order to deliver it in a timely way.
The official changelog of iOS 6.1.1 10B145 is as follows:
fixes an issue that could impact cellular performance and reliability for iPhone 4S.
Beta 1 of iOS 6.1.1 which was seeded to devs last week included great enhancements to the Maps app, more specifically performance for users in Japan: 3D views for major buildings in the country, such as Tokyo Station, Japan Imperial Palace and Tokyo Tower, were added, and quite a lot of improvements to turn-by-turn directions were added, such much improved pronunciation of the names of streets, indication of upcoming tolls, along with other minor changes aimed at making the app more accurate and reliable. Some might remember that the revamped iOS 6 was criticized by many users of the operating system for replacing Google Maps with Apple’s own solution, leading to inaccuracies and other problems that have slowly been fixed over the last few months. Apparently, these Maps changes are not included to the build released for iPhone 4S today, Apple will likely push out 6.1.2 for 6.2 with all these changes for all the iOS devices.
You can download iOS 6.1.1 immediately, either over the air straight from your device or through iTunes.
If you have been struggling to send text messages or connecting to your network ever since you installed the iOS 6.1 update, there is no reason not to go ahead with this update now. If you use Microsoft Exchange regularly, this is a must have. But those of you who rely on Evasi0n jailbreak might just have to wait for Evad3rs to confirm whether this latest 6.1.1 patches the exploit or not.
