You can now download iOS 18.1 public beta 2, iPadOS 18.1 public beta 2 and more for your iPhone and iPad. Here are the details on this.
Apple is expected to release the iOS 18.1 software update to the public in October, bringing Apple Intelligence features to the masses for the first time. But before then, a beta program continues to run and now the second public beta is available for download.
The new public beta 2 update can be downloaded by those who have signed up for Apple’s public beta program, although we would warn against installing it on any mission-critical devices. This is still beta software and bugs should be expected.
It’s also important to remember that while iOS 18.1 is compatible with all of the same devices as iOS 18, not every iPhone will support Apple Intelligence. The new features are only going to be available on the iPhone 15 Pro and iPhone 15 Pro Max as well as the newly released iPhone 16, iPhone 16 Plus, iPhone 16 Pro, and iPhone 16 Pro Max.
As for what downloaders can expect from this release, there are a surprisingly large number of changes when compared to the previous public beta release. Those changes include support for RCS across more US carriers as well as the option for iPhone 16’s Control Camera to work with the selfie camera.
Other changes include drag and drop support for iPhone mirroring when connected to a Mac running macOS 15.1, and two new Control Center controls for those who want to toggle Wi-Fi and VPN. There’s also the option to reset the whole Control Center to the default layout, too.
