Apple has released for download iOS 16.7 and iPadOS 16.7 IPSW links and OTA update for devices that can’t run iOS 17 and iPadOS 17 — here’s how to install them.
Apple’s iOS 16.7 and iPadOS 16.7 updates are now available for download and while all of the attention is on iOS 17 and iPadOS 17, these updates could be just as important.
You won’t get any fancy new features, unfortunately, but you will get access to some important security fixes.
Apple says that there are three specific security fixes in play and there is a suggestion that all three flaws were exploited in the wild. That means that installing these updates on your older devices is absolutely the way to go.
The easiest way to do that is to download and install iOS 16.7 and iPadOS 16.7 over the air, using the Settings app. Just head into the Settings app, tap General, and then tap the Software Update option to get the ball rolling.
Alternatively, you can download the IPSW files manually and then update to iOS 16.7 and iPadOS 16.7 using the Finder on a Mac or iTunes on a Windows PC. It’s more of a time sink and requires a cable, but some people do like to go that route. It’s also a good way if you’re restoring an iPhone that’s bricked, too.
