Apple has today released the first iOS 16.5 and iPadOS 16.5 betas to developers just a single day after it made iOS 16.4 and iPadOS 16.4 available to the public.
They too had gone through their own weeks-long beta testing program.
The new betas are only available to those who are on the developer beta, and those people can now opt in to download these updates.
That new mechanism was added as part of iOS 16.4 and means that only people who are registered developers can download the beta. There are no more profiles to install, but the developer Apple ID can be signed into a different account than the rest of the iPhone, thankfully. That’s great for people who have a work Apple ID and a home one.
It’s still too early to know what is new in this particular beta, but Apple has already rolled out Apple Pay Later so we can rule that one out. There is still the Apple Card Savings feature that continues to take its time releasing, but that could take a little while yet.
We’ll be putting both iOS 16.5 and iPadOS 16.5 through their paces as this and other betas land in the coming weeks. We don’t know when Apple will release these updates to the public, but those who are on the public beta program could possibly see them made available as soon as tomorrow assuming no big issues are identified over the next 24 hours or so.
