Apple has today released the fourth beta of iOS 16.4 and iPadOS 16.4 for developers, suggesting that a final release to the public is closer than ever before.
The new update is available a week after Apple also released the third beta, with a fourth public beta release now expected to arrive within the next few days.
Those who are registered developers and have the correct developer profile installed can now download the new update via the usual Software Update mechanism within the Settings app. The IPSW files will also be made available for download for those who like to archive them or perform a clean installation using iTunes on Windows or the Finder on a Mac.
The iOS 16.4 and iPadOS 16.4 betas aren’t expected to add any big new features, but there are tweaks to be had. A number of new emojis have already been added in previous betas, while Safari Web Push notifications allow websites installed on the iPhone or iPad’s Home screen to receive notifications, just like real apps.
Third-party web browsers like Chrome can now also install websites onto the Home screen, while there are also tweaks to Apple Music, Podcasts, and Books.
It isn’t year clear exactly when Apple will make iOS 16.4 and iPadOS 16.4 available for the public to download, but it’s likely to be soon. One report suggested that the updates could be released before the end of March.
