You can now download iOS 16.3 RC and iPadOS 16.3 RC OTA profile file, IPSW links for iPhone and iPad. Here are the details.
Apple has today released the first iOS 16.3 and iPadOS 16.3 release candidate updates to developers, with the company expected to also release them to those on the public beta program later this week.
The new update, which is expected to be released to the public next week, isn’t one that brings with it a huge number of new features. But there are some notable fixes for people who have been suffering with issues on their iPhones.
In terms of new features, Apple says that there is added support for security keys that allow them to be used to protect Apple IDs. There is also a change to how Emergency SOS calls work. “Emergency SOS calls now require holding the side button with the up or down volume button and then releasing in order to prevent inadvertent emergency calls,” the release notes say.
In terms of fixes, Apple says that it has fixed “an issue where horizontal lines may temporarily appear while waking up iPhone 14 Pro Max” while other fixes address wallpaper and Lock Screen widget issues.
Apple’s new update will also add support for the new HomePod 2nd generation which is set to go on sale on February 2nd. There is also support for Apple’s new Unity wallpaper and Apple Watch face.
Developers who have the correct developer profile installed can download the new update now via the usual software update mechanism.
