It has taken weeks of developer and public betas but we’re finally here – iOS 14 and iPadOS 14 are ready for their GM release.
The GM, or Golden Master, is the final beta version of a software update before it’s made available to the public. It’s the finished article, but gives Apple the chance to make sure all is well before releasing it to a wider audience.
If you’ve been holding off taking iOS 14 and iPadOS 14 for a spin, now is probably the time to take the plunge and install it if you can. This will, barring any big issues, be the same build that Apple releases to everyone. It’s finished, for all intends and purposes. You should be just fine.
These new iOS and iPadOS updates bring with them some fairly big changes. Those with iPhones will enjoy new, rich widgets on their Home screen for the first time while Apple Pencil users can now write on their iPads to enter text instead of using a keyboard. It’s all pretty fancy!
Grab the GM right now as an IPSW file from developer.apple.com to see if it meets your standards or simply wait until the iOS 14.0/14.1 and iPadOS 14.1 releases that will likely make an appearance later this month.
