Download: iOS 12.5.5 For Older iPhones And iPads With ‘Important Security Updates’ In Tow Released

Apple has just released iOS 15 and that’s getting a ton of attention for obvious reasons, but the company also just made iOS 12.5.5 available for older iPhones and iPads — and it’s just as important.

Available for the iPhone 5s, iPhone 6, and iPhone 6 Plus as well as the iPad Air, the iPad mini 2, and iPad mini 3, the new software update brings with it fixes that are “recommended for all users,” according to Apple.

Apple also notes that users should check out the security updates website for more information if they want it.

Impact: Processing a maliciously crafted PDF may lead to arbitrary code execution. Apple is aware of a report that this issue may have been actively exploited.
Description: An integer overflow was addressed with improved input validation.

Impact: Processing maliciously crafted web content may lead to arbitrary code execution. Apple is aware of a report that this issue may have been actively exploited.
Description: A use after free issue was addressed with improved memory management.

Available for: iPhone 5s, iPhone 6, iPhone 6 Plus, iPad Air, iPad mini 2, iPad mini 3, and iPod touch (6th generation)
Impact: A malicious application may be able to execute arbitrary code with kernel privileges. Apple is aware of reports that an exploit for this issue exists in the wild.
Description: A type confusion issue was addressed with improved state handling.

While all of these devices are no longer supported, it’s great to see Apple continue to make security updates available for them despite their age. We’d suggest making sure that any of the compatible devices have this update installed and running as soon as possible.
