Apple has today released iOS 12.5.1 to the public, bringing bug fixes to the COVID-19 Exposure Notifications on older iPhones and iPads.
Apple released iOS 12.5 last month, bringing the Exposure Notifications to older iPhones and iPads for the first time. That was the first time that a non-iOS 14 device had received the feature, including the hugely popular iPhone 6 series of devices.
However, that update appears to have had a big that needed to be addressed, and that’s what Apple has done here.
This update fixes an issue where Exposure Notifications could incorrectly display logging profile language.
The iOS 12.5.1 update is now available to owners of the following iPhones and iPads.
COVID-19 Exposure Notifications track whether an iPhone or Android device owner have come into close contact with someone who has tested positive for the virus, allowing them to isolate as needed and get the relevant care. Bringing it to the iPhone 6 lineup via iOS 12.5 was a big deal and improving matters via this new bug fix release is great to see.
If you’re using one of the pre-iOS 14 devices we’d suggest installing this update sooner rather than later.
