Apple’s latest release means that all 64-bit iPhone, iPad, and iPod touch owners have yet another public version of iOS 11 to sink their teeth into. The release follows quickly on from iOS 11.1.2, which came with miscellaneous bug fixes and improvements, and will be Apple’s seventh update to iOS 11 since the firmware was initially introduced alongside iPhone 8 and iPhone 8 Plus. As is generally always the case, Apple has once again proven its commitment to the development of the iOS platform, with this particular release coming equipped with bug fixes, security improvements, and the unlocking of new features.
In terms of those features, iOS 11.2 introduces the highly anticipated Apple Pay Cash feature which was originally introduced and teased during this year’s Worldwide Developer Conference (WWDC) back in June. This functionality makes use of the native Messages app and Apple Pay to allow fast and efficient payments to be sent to contacts. iOS 11.2 users will be able to send cash from a connected debit or credit card and then spend received cash through Apple Pay or release it to a nominated bank account.
This iOS 11.2 release also brings support for faster 7.5W wireless charging for anyone who has a compatible Qi-enabled wireless charger. Tim Cook’s company has also added some clarity to how Bluetooth and WiFi work through Control Center as well as adding a number of smaller user-interface changes to make things easier to find for the user, such as Control Center via the right horn to the side of the iPhone X notch. Additionally, a fix has been put in place for a bug within the Calculator app, the I.T autocorrect issue, as well as date bug and Apple has also introduced a system that will allow third-party developers to offer special introductory pricing for auto-renewable subscriptions. There’s an all-new Sports section added to the TV app as well.
