Alongside iOS 10.1 beta 1, Apple has also made available to download macOS Sierra 10.12.1, watchOS 3.1 and tvOS 10.0.1. Here are the details.
Apple’s latest major edition of its desktop operating system, macOS Sierra, has only been with us for just over 24 hours, and the company has already issued a new beta outlines just how quickly the company wants to push on with the platform. In addition to releasing macOS Sierra 10.12.1 beta 1 with immediate availability, the Cupertino-based company has also issued first betas if watchOS 3.1 for Apple Watch and tvOS 10.0.1 for all fourth-generation Apple TV units.
macOS Sierra 10.12.1 Beta 1
With macOS Sierra 10.12 only going live to the public yesterday, this pre-release version of Sierra 10.12.1 will presumably contain the beginnings of what will be a number of bug fixes and performance improvements that will look to iron out any kinks or issues that made it into the public release yesterday. From initial interaction with the release, and because macOS Sierra is almost brand new, it’s not immediately evident if any outward-facing changes have been made available to Mac owners. macOS Sierra 10.12.1 beta 1 is available to download via Apple Developer Program portal for those with the required privileges. Alternatively, for anyone already running a beta version of macOS on their MacBook or iMac, Apple has also made this latest pre-release seed available via the Update mechanism in the Mac App Store.
watchOS 3.1 Beta 1
Given the fact that Apple really doesn’t like to include any release notes or in-depth changelog with pre-release seeds, it is very difficult to instantly ascertain exactly what’s new when a new beta drops into the hands of registered developers. As with macOS Sierra 10.12.1 beta 1, watchOS 3.1 beta 1 is likely to focus on fixing issues and bugs that have been reported back to Apple since watchOS 3 went live last week. It’s not immediately clear if any outward-facing changes have been included.
As always, this latest watchOS 3.1 beta is available to developers vis Apple’s Developer Program portal. To install this update, the Apple Watch must have 50-percent battery available, or be plugged into source as well as an iPhone running iOS 10.
tvOS 10.0.1 Beta 1
Anyone with a fourth-generation Apple TV running tvOS 10 will be very much looking forward to the progression of the platform. Along with watchOS, tvOS is one of Apple’s most immature, but ultimately exciting, platforms as we get to watch it grow. Unfortunately, it doesn’t look as if tvOS 10.01 contains any groundbreaking functionality or changes, but rather focuses on fixing bugs and ironing issues that have come to light since the public release of tvOS 10.
Apple TV owners with the necessary privileges to install this latest beta will need to do so via a USB-C to USB-A cable on a computer via iTunes. If a OTA profile is installed, then updates can be installed over-the-air from the settings menu.
