If you’re anything of a mobile gamer then the chances are you’re more than familiar with Gameloft. As ever present on the App Store as well as just about every other mobile marketplace, Gameloft has made some of the most well received titles to ever grace a smartphone. That’s why when Gameloft released Asphalt 8: Airborne, everyone took notice.
Priced at just a cent shy of a dollar, the game wasn’t exactly expensive, especially considering the quality of the game that was on offer. But as we all know, a dollar isn’t the same as free now, is it?
So, for this weekend only, Gameloft has announced that it will be making Asphalt 8: Airborne free in the iOS App Store so users of both iPhone and iPad can get in on the high speed action for absolutely nothing. That’s right, absolutely nothing, which equates to free if you’re asking us.
As for the game itself, it’s pretty much what you would expect from the Asphalt series. Fast cars, super gorgeous graphics and more fun than anyone in their right mind should be able to handle. Downsides? Well, there are the now obligatory in-app purchases that will no doubt rub some people up the wrong way and the difficulty is less than forgiving. Still, it’s free so long as you can avoid those in-app purchases so what do you have to lose?
It’s not unheard of for paid-for apps to go free for a limited time with the aim of getting themselves further up the charts before going back to their original plan of charging per download. Gameloft knows what it’s doing, and it’s one of the biggest names in the mobile gaming industry, so if there is any gaming of the charts to be done, then they’ll certainly know how to do it.
So, when all’s said and done, if you were planning on downloading Asphalt 8: Airborne on your iPhone, iPad or iPod touch, then now’s the time to do it before it goes back to a dollar a go.
We all love free stuff, now don’t we?
