Apple has today released a new watchOS update for wearers of its Apple Watch wearable. The new watchOS 9.6.1 update is now available for download via the Watch app on the iPhone and is likely one of the last to arrive before Apple releases watchOS 10 to the public next month.
Apple’s release notes say that this update is here to specifically fix an issue relating to the Movement Disorder API that might be used by app developers whose apps help track tremors and other symptoms sometimes related to Parkinson’s.
This update includes a fix for an issue that prevents access to motion data for apps that use the Movement Disorder API to track tremors and symptoms associated with Parkinson’s disease.
The aforementioned update fixes bug that previously prevented third-party apps from accessing the data collected by the Apple Watch. We’d suggest that you download this new release even if you don’t use an app that accesses the Movement Disorders API however, and it’s possible that there are other, smaller fixes and improvements in watchOS 9.6.1 that Apple hasn’t confirmed in its release notes.
Alongside the impending watchOS 10 release, Apple is expected to ship the iOS 17, iPadOS 17, macOS Sonoma, and tvOS 17 software to the public in September.
