Download: Apple Releases OS X El Capitan 10.11.3 Final Version To The Public

Apple has today continued the public progression of OS X El Capitan, the platform that powers its entire range of Mac computers. After going through a period of pre-release testing with registered developers and those who have enrolled on the Public Beta program, Apple has today officially released OS X 10.11.3 for mass public consumption. The release represents the third major update in the current lifecycle of OS X El Capitan, which was originally released in the first instance in September last year, and puts an end to the beta process of 10.11.3 that has been ongoing since December 16 of last year.

Today’s public release follows on from three previous beta releases designed to afford developers and public testers with the opportunity to report back to Apple with any bugs and issues that they may find. What’s particularly interesting is that Apple also has an initial beta of OS X 10.11.4 out in the wild that has been running alongside the 10.11.3 beta for a small amount of time. That latest version in test actually introduces some well-received user-facing changes into OS X, whereas 10.11.3 focuses mainly on improving the security aspect of the platform and introducing some performance enhancements and bug fixes in key areas.

Apple, as always, has chosen to shy away from issuing any verbose accompanying changelog that goes into intricate detail about the release and what is contained within. The Mac App Store update data is listed as follows:

The OS X El Capitan 10.11.3 update improves the stability, compatibility, and security of your Mac. This update is recommended for all OS X El Capitan users.

This update contains bug fixes and security updates.

Thorough attention was paid to each and every one of the three pre-release seeds that preceded this release. No-one investigating the platform was able to find any real outward-facing changes that introduced new features or functionality into the platform with 10.11.3. Instead, it seems that Apple has chosen to focus entirely on fixing bugs that were found after the public release of 10.11.2, as well as focusing on improving the overall stability of OS X across all Macs capable of running it.

Those with a Mac running El Capitan can get access to OS X 10.11.3 right now by invoking the Mac App Store and visiting the Updates tab.
