Apple has today released the iOS 17.5 and iPadOS 17.5 betas to developers two weeks after the company released iOS 17.4 and iPadOS 17.4 to the public.
Apple regularly releases new software updates for developers to test before making them available to the public and they can now opt into download this latest update via the Settings app and its Software Updates mechanism.
The update will only become available once beta updates have been enabled and the developer is signed into the Apple ID that is associated with their developer account. In terms of new features, nothing big is expected this time out as Apple begins to wind down the iOS 17 updates as it readies the big iOS 18 unveiling at WWDC in June.
The update is set to bring new features to those who live in the European Union however, with Apple set to allow developers to offer app downloads directly from their websites for the first time. The update could also feature the usual bug fixes and security updates.
It’s not yet known when Apple will make these updates available to the public but it’s likely that a few more beta releases will be offered to developers before that happens to allow Apple to iron out any bugs and issues.
With the new EU web-based downloading, Apple will surely want to ensure the system works as intended before it’s made available to everyone.
