Apple has today released the second iOS 16.4 and iPadOS 16.4 betas to developers, with both now available for download.
Downloading the betas will of course require that people have the correct developer profile installed on their devices, but assuming that is taken care of the update can be done over-the-air using the same update mechanism that everyone is familiar with.
The new beta arrives two weeks after Apple made the very first ones available to developers, and we can expect the second Public Beta to be released to people with that profile installed later this week. If no showstopping bugs are discovered, we may see that arrive as soon as tomorrow.
The iOS 16.4 and iPadOS 16.4 updates add a couple of new features, including Safari Web Push notifications that allow websites to send notifications as if they were real apps once installed on the Home screen. The web notifications work in the same way as the ones some websites send users on the Mac, for example.
Updated emojis have also been added, with 31 new ones available. There are other tweaks to HomeKit, the Podcasts, app, Apple Music, and more as well. However, there are no big new features at the time of writing — although that could change as future betas are released.
There’s currently no telling when Apple will release these new updates to the wider iPhone and iPad community, but we can surely expect a few more betas before that happens.
