macOS Catalina 10.15 beta 5, watchOS 6 beta 5, and tvOS 13 beta 5 are all now available to download for registered developers with compatible Mac, Apple Watch, and Apple TV hardware.
This is Apple’s latest set of releases in a long roadmap which will see the Cupertino-based company through until September of this year. We should now see Apple ramping up the release cycle and pushing out more frequent updates. Let’s take a look at each platform.
macOS Catalina Beta 5: macOS Catalina is the macOS update designed to make people fall in love with the Mac once again. It comes with a number of notable improvements and changes, including dedicated Apple Music, Podcasts, and TV apps. Bundling these apps with macOS Catalina is the first nail in the iTunes coffin. Apple has also introduced Voice Control, a brand new Screen Time experience which has its roots in iOS, as well as Project Catalyst, which is the artist formerly known as Marzipan and allows developers to bring iPad apps over to macOS. This latest beta is part of Apple’s roadmap to a public release later in the year.
watchOS 6 beta 5: Apple Watch owners will likely feel that watchOS 6 is somewhat underwhelming but, nevertheless, is still a worthwhile update. It offers brand new watch faces, improved and overhauled health features, and even a brand new charging animation which is absolutely gorgeous. The initial beta seed of watchOS 6 was far from perfect and actually crippled the battery life of Apple Watch but that has been improved hugely with the last few releases. This release is yet another stab at fixing important issues with watchOS 6.
tvOS 13 beta 5: tvOS 13 is a big deal for Apple TV owners for one simple reason: multi-user accounts. Yes, that’s right, it’s finally here. Apple TV owners will be able to sign-in on Apple TV using different accounts, which, in turn, gives a unique experience for users who will have their own personalized experience when they sign in. tvOS 13 also brings brand new screensavers, Apple Music Lyrics when tunes are playing, and a redesigned Home screen which pops and looks stunning on a huge high-definition display.
Currently, the releases above are available for those registered as Apple developers. Beta 5 of macOS Catalina and tvOS 13 will be available for public testers in the coming days.
