Google has just made available to download Android 7.1.1 developer preview 2 for Nexus 6P, Nexus 5X, Nexus 9, Nexus Player and more. This developer preview seed of Nougat comes approximately one month after the release of initial preview build which Google released for compatible Android devices.
While Google’s own Pixel phones already run final version of Android 7.1 Nougat, it’s important to note here that the Android version which ships with Pixel is different than the one being tested right now for all other devices.
As if Android fragmentation wasn’t already enough, Google has decided to make some Android 7.1 features, like the Google Assistant for example, exclusive to Pixel phones only, hence the need for this different build of 7.1 Nougat for all other Android devices.
Android 7.1.1 Nougat for all other devices includes features such as support for Daydream VR, Apple’s 3D Touch Quick Actions-like feature called app shortcuts that works with swipe gestures, enhanced live wallpapers, and more.
Android 7.1.1 Nougat DP2 is available for Nexus 6P, 5X, 9, Pixel C, Nexus Player and General Mobile 4G.
As has been the case for a while now, the best way of going about to download and install Android 7.1.1 Nougat (developer preview 2 build) is to do it via Google’s official Android Beta Program. You can find our full step-by-step instructions on how to go about doing that on your compatible Nexus or non-Nexus device here. Alternatively, you can also download factory images from Android Developers site and then flash it on your device.
Apparently, this is going to be the last developer preview release for Android 7.1.1 Nougat. Google will be rolling out final version sometime next month before the end of the year to both AOSP and OEM ecosystem.
