Google today has officially taken the wraps of Android 2.3 Gingerbread. Version 2.3 brings lots of new features to the Android platform. Some of these include: UI refinements for simplicity and speed, Faster, more intuitive text input, one-touch word select and copy / paste, improved power management, control over applications, and new ways of communicating, organizing (Internet calling, Near-field communications, Downloads management and camera).

Nexus One owners as usual are going to get the first love. Google has started rolling out Android 2.3 to Nexus One users. It will of course take a while before the roll out completes. Keep checking the notification tray for a “System Alert” for Android 2.3 which could be here for you any minute.

UPDATE 1: According to a developer at Google, Android 2.3 Gingerbread will be coming to Nexus One in the next few weeks.
Not sure where Engadget is getting their reports. The Nexus One OTA isn’t happening just yet – should be coming in a few weeks.
