Google has just released Android 2.2 (aka Froyo) SDK for developers so that they can start developing apps which are compatible with this version of the OS. Android 2.2 was announced earlier today at the Google I/O 2010 conference in San Francisco.
Android 2.2 is a minor platform release including user features, developer features, API changes, and bug fixes.
For developers, the Android 2.2 platform is available as a downloadable component for the Android SDK. The downloadable platform includes a fully compliant Android library and system image, as well as a set of emulator skins, sample applications, and more. The downloadable platform includes no external libraries.
To get started developing or testing against the Android 2.2 platform, use the Android SDK and AVD Manager tool to download the platform into your SDK.
This new version is said to be 2 – 5 times faster than Android 2.1. It also introduces tons of new features for both end-users and developers alike. Check out the full list of Android 2.2 features here.
