DOOM will always hold a special place in the hearts of those of us that remember the first game to bear that name, and while it’s been a whole ten years since DOOM 3 had us all hiding behind our chairs, the enthusiasm for one of the world’s biggest gaming franchises hasn’t died down – even after that movie that did its best to scrape the entire thing off. If you’ve seen it, you know what we mean. If you haven’t, then you’re one of the lucky ones.
Announced at this year’s E3 by developer Bethesda, DOOM 4 will once again provide the kind of hell-ish shooter action that we’ve all become accustomed to from the DOOM franchise, and that sounds just great to us. The title has had its problems during the prolonged development cycle that has led us to this point, but with Bethesda promising to give the game a proper outing at this year’s Quakecon which from July 17th, we should get to see a little more of what is going to be on offer soon enough.
In fact, we should be able to play it relatively soon, too. Bethesda had already promised that a DOOM beta would be made available for those who just can’t wait, and while the form of that beta hasn’t been disclosed as yet, we do know that it will be available on every platform you’d want it on; PC, Xbox One, Xbox 360, PlayStation 4 and PlayStation 3. Sorry, no Wii-U version, unsurprisingly. It’s a fairly safe bet that the list of platforms getting the beta is the same list that DOOM 4 will eventually ship on.
If you’re a big DOOM fan then you do not want to miss out the DOOM reveal trailer we’ve embedded below. We’re sure it will get you as excited as we got when we first got a glimpse of it!
Right now, we’re left to wait for Quakecon before we get any more information, but if DOOM 4 turns out as well as DOOM 3 did, we’re sure it’ll be quite the fright-fest. We can’t wait to give it a try!
We’ll keep our eyes and ears pealed for more information on DOOM 4, too. We’ll keep you updated as we get more news on it!
