A few weeks ago it was Apple’s turn to share details about its own streaming service, and now it’s Disney’s. The media company has now taken the wraps off its Disney+ service, and it’s looking pretty great.
There will be a special Disney+ app that will then serve all of the content we would expect from such a service.
If you’ve ever used Netflix, Amazon Prime Video, or one of the hundreds of similar streaming services then you will immediately feel right at home here. When Disney CEO, Bog Iger, showed the app on the big screen it immediately reminded us of the Apple TV interface, and that’s probably not a coincidence.
Content-wise, everything appears to be pretty much what we would expect. That means there’s Disney, Pixar, Marvel, and National Geographic content as well as the Star Wars franchise. While existing content will be available, Disney says that it will also be developing new content specifically designed for viewing via Disney+.
Just like most other streaming apps, users will be able to set up their own profiles which will allow for the tailoring of content to a particular user’s needs and wishes. If those wishes include 4K content, then you’re in luck – both movies and TV shows will not only get 4K versions, but they’ll also be offered in HDR as well.
Disney+ will launch on November 12th, which is still a long, long way away. That’s the bad news, but the good news comes in the form of the price.
Viewers will be able to pay $6.99 per month or a rolling annual subscription of just $69.99, making this one of the best-value streaming services around. Disney+ will launch in the US initially – expected to be available on Apple and Android devices – with other countries set to come online over the next couple of years.
