DigiTimes: Mini-LED 12.9-Inch iPad Pro Won’t Ship Until April At The Earliest

Apple was rumored to be holding a media event on March 23, but with that now looking unlikely it appears one of the products set for an announcement has also been delayed.

Rumors had Apple announcing a new 12.9-inch iPad Pro during the March 23 event, complete with a new mini-LED display. Now, according to DigiTimes at least, that isn’t going to happen until at least April.

DigiTimes has a notoriously sketchy track record with these kinds of things, but after initially saying the tablet would arrive this month it’s notable that April is now being talked about. Leaker Jon Prosser has also today said that the March 23 event has been pushed to April instead.

Epistar has become the exclusive supplier of miniLED chips to be used in 12.9-inch miniLED-backlit ‌iPad Pro‌, with nearly 50% of the corresponding production capacity booked up for the tablet and volume shipments to begin in the second quarter of 2021, the sources said.

It isn’t clear whether the iPad Pro is the reason for the March event being pushed into April, however. It’s possible this is all a coincidence. It’s also possible that the March event was never going to happen, too.

But Prosser was extremely confident in his sources – so much so that it’s now going to cost him his eyebrows after he promised to shave them off if the March 23 event didn’t go ahead.
