Diablo III holds the record as the fastest selling PC game of all time, but since it tends to be only the really hardcore gamers bumping up their graphics cards and battling it out on Windows, it makes sense that such a runaway success would eventually manifest itself on console. As of September 3rd, both PlayStation 3 and Xbox 360 gaming fans will be able to get their Diablo III fix, with Activision Blizzard having just made the announcement of the title for the two market-leading current-gen consoles. Details after the break!
September is a pretty good month for new games, and with EA having earlier given us a teaser trailer of the new FIFA 14, this announcement is every bit as exciting. To reiterate, Diablo 3 is the most popular PC game ever to release, and although we kind of already knew the PS3 version was incoming, the revelation that the Xbox 360 will also be seeing support will certainly appease those in ownership of the flagship Microsoft gaming machine.
Although the flexibility of PC hardware upgrades makes playing the latest and greatest games on a desktop a relative no-brainer, not everybody has the means or desire to continually shell out for expensive new graphics cards and such. So naturally, many stick with their Xbox or PlayStations for their gaming needs, and for that reason, the platform crossing of Diablo III has to (once again) be billed as one of the biggest releases so far in 2013.
Of course, Activision’s next Call of Duty may have something to say about that, but Diablo III will tide avid gamers over until the projected November release of the next in the CoD series. According to the announcement, Diablo III on console won’t just be a straight port, with certain elements “custom-tailored for gamepad-driven action.”
As well as “intuitive” controls, Diablo III on console will benefit from an all-new dynamic camera system and improved UI, and with the more recently-added bonus content for the PC edition arriving right off the bat, the console gamers will enjoy the fruits of this staggered release.
A PlayStation 4 version is in the pipeline, but with details still rather sketchy on the console itself, nothing is tied down with regards to a release date.
