Now that we are through our first weekend with the iPhone 6s and iPhone 6s Plus being available to buy in many countries, it is becoming clear to anyone who has used one for any length of time that these new smartphones are fast. Very fast indeed. Apple’s new A9 CPU and the inclusion of 2GB of RAM have given the new iPhones all they need to compete a the very highest echelons of performance.
And that’s exactly what they are doing. We have already seen plenty of initial Geekbench scores showing that the new iPhones are without a doubt some of the fastest around, even beating Apple’s own MacBook in some tasks. Benchmarks of that kind are great at giving a feel for how a device can perform, but there’s nothing like real-world testing for showing how a new smartphone compares with its contemporaries.
AnandTech is known for doing just that, and they have today released some statistics that see the iPhone 6s and iPhone 6s Plus pitted against other smartphones and tablets across a range of categories such as gaming, battery life, web browsing and memory speeds, among others.

The results saw Apple’s latest smartphones shoot right to the top of the table in most areas, though the Microsoft Surface (PC/tablet hybrid) does best Apple’s smartphones in the 3D gaming stakes and a few other areas.

It’s not all good news, though, with the iPhone 6s Plus offering slightly less battery life than the iPhone 6 Plus in some web browsing tests, likely due to the smaller battery shipping in the latest model.
Interestingly, the iPhone 6s Plus appears to actually have accordingly less battery life at 12.9 hours, or right around 6% less than the iPhone 6 Plus.

When it comes to storage though, the new iPhones are super quick thanks to Apple using similar technology to desktop SSDs.
In the case of the iPhone 6s, it seems that this means Apple has effectively taken their Macbook SSD controller and adapted it for use in a smartphone.
